TGMA sets date for 2025 nominees announcement and other details

After weeks of anticipation and the long wait, Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is set to unveil its official list of nominees for the 26th awards ceremony.

The grand announcement of the nominees will be telecast live on TV3 this Saturday, March 15, 2025.

The announcement will be streamed love on social media accounts of TGMA giving the opportunity for music lovers and industry players across the country to see which of their favourite artistes and groups have earned a spot on this year’s coveted nominees list.

On January 21, 2025, the journey to the TGMA begun with a call for nominations. Artistes, managers and music groups have since submitted their works released within the year under review— from January 1 to December 31, 2024 — for consideration. The submission window was closed on February 16, 2025.

According to Charterhouse, organisers of the prestigious awards scheme, this year’s response was overwhelming. They received over 1,500 entries from more than 130 artistes and music groups, spanning a variety of genres and styles.

After nominations were received, a dedicated panel of industry experts, including seasoned musicians, producers, and key stakeholders, undertook the challenging task of carefully reviewing and vetting each entry.

The screening process was to ascertain whether the various nominations deserved the categories for which they were nominated for.

Following the review, the final list of nominees was vetted and approved by the TGMA board and other notable figures in the music industry, guaranteeing a transparent and credible selection process.

Although all award categories carry significance, all eyes are expected to be on the prestigious Big 5 categories, which often dominate headlines and spark intense public debate.
These categories represent the pinnacle of achievement in the Ghanaian music industry and will be unveiled live during the announcement ceremony.

They include:
• Record of the Year
• Album of the Year
• Telecel Most Popular Song of the Year
• New Artiste of the Year
• Artiste of the Year
