“That is not our certificate” – GWR declares Chef Smith’s certificate as fake

Guinness World Records has declared Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith certificate which indicates that he overtook Irish chef Alan Fisher to become the Guinness World Record holder for longest cooking marathon by an individual as fake.

Chef Smith announced at a press conference at the La Palm Beach Hotel on Tuesday, June 2, 2024 stated that “today is a day I will forever remember, I am deeply humbled and honored to stand before you today as the Guinness World Record program, cooking for 802 hours and 25 minutes. My heart is overflowing with joy and gratitude for making this dream come through.”

Chef Smith’s record certificate sighted by Elvisanokyenews.com reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”

Responding to this, Guinness World Records in a chat with TV3 stated that it is not true that Chef Smith holds the GWR title as the longest cooking marathon by an individual and the certificate does not belong to them.

“Hello TV3, thank you for getting in touch. We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate.

Guinness World Records reiterated that Irish chef Alan Fisher still remains the current records holder as the longest cooking marathon by an individual

“The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”

The news about Chef Smith record holder generated a lot of debate on social media as some people questioned the authenticity of the certificate.
