The Dramatic Coup in Guinea: What really happened – as narrated by an Insider

Apparently a faction of the military called “Force Speciall” has made moves against the sick President, Alpha Kondè!

The ruling RPG of President Alpha Kondè is divided in two blocks since the last election.

The pure Mandigo block led by Janneh, the former Defence Minister who was recently appointed as Prime Minister and the Koniaka-Madingo fraction led by Amadou Damaro, House Speaker and Damanten Interior Minister. The Koniaka faction dominates most of the Cabinet and juicy positions in the government and most of the main Army positions are in the hands of Koniakas. Tension has been rising between the mainly Fula majority since the last elections of the regime, and it looks like a full blown civil war is on the horizon. The Madingo proper started distancing themselves from the Alpha Kondè regime, because all the ethnic groups now in Guinea have a bone to pick with the Madingoes and in the region called “Forestiay” mainly Kissi, Gerseh, Toma are also gearing up for a full blown clash with Madingoes.  Kasorie, the Susu Prime minister was recently sacked and most Susu Army officers retired, so the Susu are not happy either.

The Madingo proper who feels they are taking the blame for ethnic tension fermented mainly by Koniakas, think they need to do something.

Colonel Dumbuya of the Madingo proper stands accused by the Koniakas in the Army of corruption and a danger to the regime. Colonel Mamadi Dumbuya was a sergeant in the French Military who returned to his native Guinea to join the Guinean Army where he started as Captain and rose to the rank of a Colonel.

Colonel Dumbuya was appointed commander of the Special Forces of Guinea by President Alpha Kondè.

The French intercepted a plan to arrest Colonel Dumbuya by the Koniaka faction, giving the fact that he is also a French citizen, also Kondè has largely snubbed the former colonial master France. The French hatched a plan for their man colonel Dumbuya to make a move against Alpha Konde by creating a fake mutiny in Kaloum Conakry, so that Colonel Dumbuya will deploy his men to pretend he is there to put the mutiny down and the plan worked.

Colonel Dumbuya left Forekaria this morning with 30 pickups, on board were 300 heavily armed Special Forces men and entered the capital, after the fake mutiny started, and there was gun fire in the capital.

After putting his men in position, he told the President everything is under control so that he can access the Palace and the President himself.

When his men got access with the pretext of telling President Alpha Kondè things are in control, the President was promptly put under arrest.

The Madingo proper are now rounding up the Koniaka big guns.

The situation is still volatile and the Army has suspended the constitution and arrested senior government officials. No clear picture yet as to what this faction of the Army plans.
