The Security Implications of the Missing Roasted Plantains at Juaben, Kona, Agona, Jamasi, Nitim, and Mampong

For some of us, our staple food on a journey from Accra to Bawku is roasted plantains.

On 27th May 2024, we expected to enjoy roasted plantains when we got on the Ejisu-Juaben road. Surprisingly, we could not get our meal at Juaben, Kona, Agona, Jamasi, Nitim, and Mampong. “Plantains are expensive,” said our favourite Juaben seller who has switched to roasting corn.

When we checked with the road side sellers, we noted that a relatively small bunch of plantain was selling at seventy (70) cedis instead of twenty-five (25) or thirty (30) cedis it was sold in last month, April. I wish to state that for some of us, the availability of roasted plantain is our food security and our human security.

May the Ministers of National Security and Food and Agriculture listen to our cries for our roasted plantains – our basic food and human security in the Juaben to Mampong general areas.
