Ghana’s 4x100m anchor leg at the 2024 Paris Olympics Joseph-Paul Amoah, who was also the flagbearer at the opening ceremony, has explained the circumstances under which the men’s relay team was disqualified at the Stade de France on Thursday.

Ghana, despite finishing in a disappointing time of 38.62s, was adjudged to have crossed the line ahead of the final baton change between Ibrahim Fuseini and Amoah.

Speaking to journalists after the race, Jo-Paul Amoah said the stadium was loud and they could not hear the calls from each other.

“The stadium was really loud,” he told Joy Sports in the mixed zone.

“Instead of using it as advantage, I think it broke us in a way.

“We struggled to hear the calls, but we did our best in the circumstances.”

Ghana was in the same heat as hosts France, who had the home crowd backing them all the way to second place in 38.34s.

The French team’s better run than Jamaica and Canada literally turned the stadium upside down.

The hosts were only beaten by China, who finished in 38.24s.

Ghana’s poor finish sums up an abysmal campaign at the global multi-sport showpiece as the country has no more representation in the Games.

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) would have to come back to the drawing table to prepare for the Los Angeles Games in 2028.
