This is the biggest of all disgrace for Ghana – Mahama on CAF ban of Baba Yara Stadium

According to him, that is one of two incidents caused by the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP), putting Ghana in bad light in the eyes of the international community.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has described the ban imposed on Ghana by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from hosting Black Stars games as the “biggest disgrace” to have befallen the country.

Mr Dramani Mahama insists that never in the history of the country has such ignominy befallen it.

According to him, that is one of two incidents caused by the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP), putting Ghana in bad light in the eyes of the international community.

The other, he pointed out, is the huge debt the country has incurred in the past eight years.

The former President made these known at Yamfo in the Tano North Constituency of the Aharon Region.

It was part of his regional campaign tour on Thursday, September 19.

His comments come in the wake of the withdrawal of approval of CAF for the usage of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting Category 3 games.

The continent’s football-governing body, therefore, charged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to search alternative venues outside Ghana for the next two home qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The country received backlash during the Angola-Ghana qualifier after the pitch became the talking point in the 1-0 loss to the Palancas Negras.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium was immediately shut down for renovations works until October.

That decision was recently extended to other facilities including the Accra Sports Stadium, which was named by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, for inspection for the likely hosting of matches.
