The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has reiterated his commitment to establishing a state-of-the-art Aviation Academy in the Volta Region to equip students in Ghana and across the globe with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry-specific expertise required for careers in the aviation industry.

As part of efforts to bring this dream to fruition, Togbe Afede XIV led a high-powered delegation on a feasibility study tour of the Ho Airport. The move forms part of broader plans to establish an international Aviation Academy that will serve as a Centre of Excellence in aviation training in Ghana and the West African sub-region.

The proposed academy will feature a Pilot Training School, Cabin Crew and Technician Training Facility, as well as a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility — all designed to provide world-class aviation education and skills development.

The initiative is expected to significantly boost aviation education in Ghana, create employment opportunities, and position the country as a regional hub for aviation training and related services.

This latest visit marks the second feasibility assessment of the project, following an initial attempt in 2019 which faced some challenges. However, with renewed commitment, strategic planning, and a strengthened collaborative approach among stakeholders, there is renewed optimism for a successful implementation.

The delegation included the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; officials from the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL); Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA); Africa World Airlines (AWA); industry engineers; and other key stakeholders.

Discussions centered on selecting an optimal location for the facility, while also addressing critical logistical, regulatory, and infrastructural considerations necessary for seamless execution of the project.

Togbe Afede XIV emphasized that the proposed academy holds enormous potential — not only for the Volta Region but also for Ghana’s aviation sector and economy at large.

“With dedication, strategic planning, and collaboration, I am confident that we can deliver a world-class aviation academy that meets international standards and contributes meaningfully to Ghana’s socio-economic and aviation industry growth,” he said.
