TOR Should Be Saved – Energy Minister Designate

The Minister of Energy Designate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has said that under his watch discussions would be opened on how best the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) could be saved.

According to him, the state refinery was not in good state to the extent that people are refusing to pay the state refinery.

“As a nation we must decide that we should not lose TOR but rather make it work,” he said.

TOR currently is not in good state as it is faced with lots of problems, including financial and machinery.

Companies that had used the service of the state refinery in refining crude are not forthcoming with monies owed to the company.

A case in point is a company owing TOR to the tune of $5million after TOR had refined part of 11million barrels of crude stored in its tanks.

Dr. Prempeh said that TOR would help in adding value to Ghana’s latest natural resource which is oil.
