Tourism: Osu Castle to become Presidential Museum

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has announced its plans redevelop the historic Osu Castle into a state-of-the-art presidential and governance museum. This unique cultural institution is set to pay homage to former presidents of the Republic of Ghana, offering an insightful journey through the nation’s political evolution.

Dr. Ibrahim Awal Mohammed, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, made this known during a press briefing in Accra on Monday.

“We are going to build new museums across the country,” Dr Mohammed said. “In fact, we are going to start building what we call the heroes park for the big six. And across the regions, Saltpond, Tamale, Kyebi, we are going to modernize some of the circles, the Danquah circle, the Busia circle at 37 over the next year.”

“The Osu Castle, when refurbished and modernized, will be a presidential museum that will be dedicated to all former presidents of the Republic of Ghana,” he added.

At its core, the Destination Ghana Project aims to attract an impressive four million visitors, both domestic and international, to explore the rich tapestry of Ghana’s diverse tourist attractions.

Dr. Mohammed articulated the project’s financial ambitions, projecting a revenue exceeding $6 billion, while concurrently generating over 150,000 employment opportunities within a span of four years.
