As part of activities marking the Ghana Civil Service week, 89 staffs have been honoured for their dedication to duty in Accra. The event was held on the theme, “Civil Service and Private Sector Synergy: A National Development Imperative”.
The awardees included 29 officers, 13 directors, 14 chief directors and 33 people from specialized fields of academia.
Special awards were presented to the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Opare, former Chief Director at the Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Florence Naana Ampratwum, former Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Alex Glover Quartey and a Member of the Civil Service Council, Mr. Edwin Barnes as Mr. Patrick Nomo of the Forestry Ministry had the overall prize as the best performing Chief Director.
President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a virtual address said the collaboration between, public and civil servants have contributed to the administrative growth of the socio-economic development of the country.
He praised the civil servants for their unflinching support in enhancing government machinery in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He said civil servants did not relent in their efforts in the discharge of duties but work assiduously in the fight against the pandemic.
According to him, the government-provided adequate provision relating to funds in the capacity building of civil servants in career development which have added value to the human resource base of the entire civil service machinery. He commended the frantic efforts of the measures put in place for the promotions of civil servants in their respective ranks and positions.

“Civil Servants have played a significant role in contributing to government flagships programmes which have impacted positively on the growth of the economy”, he said adding that they deserve to be acknowledged in all fields of working endeavour.
Activities lined up to mark the weeklong celebrations include a press launch, clean up exercise, thanksgiving service, public lecture, awards ceremony, medical screening. It was supported by the Ghana Civil Service, World Bank, PSRRP and CLOGSSAG.
