A routine visit to a constituency by a Member of Parliament (MP) in Ghana’s Central Region turned chaotic after a tutor slapped a student at a charged gathering.

Maame Pokuaa Sawyer, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Agona East was at the Agona Namanwura on Thursday, to interact with residents and party supporters when the incident happened.

The tutor, identified as Wahab Adams, viciously slapped the elated final year student of Agona Namanwura Community Day Senior High School, who was at the event with other students to give the lawmaker a rousing welcome.

It is gathered that the tutor sought to question why the students were at the event with the school’s musical instruments without informing authorities.

Witnesses told Dailymailgh.com that it took the intervention of some opinion leaders to bring the situation under control.

Allegations

Sawyer, who expressed disappointment wants the teacher sanctioned.

The lawmaker also accused her opponents from the ruling New Patriotic Party of masterminding the act.

She intends to file an official complaint to the police to investigate the matter.

“It’s sad. This is what is happening here. It happened to me last week at this year’s Farmer’s Day. They made sure my name was yanked from the list of guests. They did same while I was campaigning. I will not take this any longer. President Akufo-Addo must call his men to order”, she lamented.

She further added: “This will not deter me. I am focused on. NDC and President Mahama are winning in Agona East come 2020”.

Petition

Evelyn Hanson is mother of the victim. She wants her ward to be transferred to another school for fear of being victimised.

She wants the tutor sacked.

“Why should a teacher do this to his student? What crime did he commit? I am appealing to authorities to call the teacher to order or he faces our wrath”, a visibly angry mother told reporters.

Officials of the school are yet to comment on the matter.
