Two CHPS Compounds commissioned in Atiwa East

Residents of Akyem Mampong and Ahankrasu in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region have seen the commissioning of community-based health planning services (CHPS) compound after several years of non-availability of a health facility.

The two CHPS Compounds were commissioned by the Deputy Minister for Health, Mahama Asei Seini.

Estimated at GH¢1.3 million, the CHPS Compounds have been designed with a Main Clinic, two 1-bedroom staff facility and a 2-bedroom staff facility.

The CHPS Compounds also consist of OPD, 10-seater capacity waiting area, Ante-natal Consulting rooms, Counselling room, Treatment Room, Mini Laboratory, 4-bed ward, Delivery Unit with a 2-bed lying-in and a borehole with water pump.

Contractors Messrs Webb Builders Limited with support from in-house technical team of Ministry of Health executed the project.

The Deputy Health Minister, Mahama Asei Seini, in his address, said the project is part of government’s commitment to achieving the SDGs and UHC.

“Bringing primary health care services to the doorstep of communities and individuals remains high on the agenda of the government and it will be delivered without fail.”

He was confident the facilities will improve the geographical access to health care thereby reducing deaths among mothers and children in communities.

“Putting up these infrastructure are part of a broad strategy to improving geographical access to health care thereby impacting on the reduction of the burden of maternal and child health morbidity and mortality.”

The deputy minister urged contractors working on health projects to work assiduously to ensure the project is delivered on time with value for the investment.

He pointed out that as part of government’s drive to revamp infrastructure, several projects were under construction in the Eastern Region.

“The following projects are being constructed in the Region – Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua Phase One, District Hospital with emphasis on trauma in Anyinam, equipping maternal hospital at Enyiresi, 40-bed hospital at Jumapo.”

He revealed the health ministry had plans to put up a modern treatment and isolation centre at the existing Koforidua Central Regional Hospital site in the fight against Covid-19.
