In what appears to be a U-turn, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has assured that there will be no power outage for residents in Accra during its maintenance works expected to last for some 80 days.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 8, 2022, the management of GRIDCo said the works will plunge into darkness, areas served by the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) distribution systems.

This generated a huge uproar among residents of Accra who questioned whether dumsor had returned after government officials claimed it had been permanently addressed.

Some residents also went a step further and demanded a load shedding schedule to enable them to plan their lives and movements accordingly.

But another joint statement by GRIDCo and power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured of uninterrupted power supply during the reconstruction of the transmission lines from Achimota to Mallam substations.

“Whilst we confirm the reconstruction work on our transmission lines has commenced since Saturday, April 9, 2022, we wish to assure the public that the ongoing work will not lead to any DUMSOR,” the latest statement issued on Sunday, April 10, 2022, clarified.
