University of Cape Coast (UCC) students call on university authorities to construct a bridge connecting their hostels to key lecture halls, notably the Sandwich Lecture Theatre (SWLT), amidst concerns over frequent flooding.

During rainfall, paths leading to the SWLT, especially from hostels in Ayensu and parts of Kwapro, become inundated, making it challenging for students to attend lectures and access essential facilities.

Julius Quartey, Water and Sanitation Chair of the Students Representative Council (SRC) at UCC highlighted the persistent issue: “Whenever it rains, the place gets flooded, and students cannot pass there. We want to propose the construction of a proper bridge to ensure students can use it without disruption.”

Currently, makeshift measures like blocks and wooden planks are in place, but these prove inadequate during heavy downpours, underscoring the urgent need for a permanent solution.

Efforts to engage university management on this matter are ongoing. We hope for a favorable response to alleviate the impact of flooding on student mobility and academic activities.
