Ugandan minister warns on ‘shut down’ claims

Uganda’s ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba has issued arrest warnings to people spreading what she says is false information about a plan to “shut down” the country this week.

The minister tweeted that the authorities were aware of a plan to cause chaos from 3 to 7 February.

I call upon anyone to disassociate themselves from this evil plan. The country is safe and security will work fast to arrest anyone planning to create chaos,” she tweeted:

The opposition is set to file a petition challenging last month’s presidential election in which President Yoweri Museveni was declared as winner.

Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine rejected the poll results alleging there was widespread fraud.

The electoral commission and Mr Museveni have denied the allegations.
