Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni Appointed Life Patron of Forum Of Kings And Traditional Leaders Of Africa

The Forum of Kings and Traditional Leaders of Africa has conferred the title of Life Patron on H.E Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda.

“This is in recognition of your immense support to traditional authorities in your country and the rest of Africa over the years,” President of the Forum, Torgbiga Amenya Fiti V, said in a speech during a courtesy call on the Ugandan leader at the state house in Kampala on Monday, August 5.

Torgbiga Amenya Fiti praised President Museveni for “ensuring that Uganda remained a beacon of hope and unity in Africa, embodying the spirit of self reliance, progress, solidarity, and the Pan Africanism of the forebears of the continent.

“Your commitment to Pan Africanism is not just a political stance, but a deeply held belief that has shaped your leadership and vision for our continent – you have constantly championed the course of African unity, independence and self reliance, emphasizing the importance of solidarity among African nations.

Your efforts have been instrumental in fostering the collective identity and purpose among Africans,” Torgbiga Amenya Fiti said.

He said the African Union under President Museveni’s guidance, has influenced significant strides towards integration and cooperation, adding that Museveni’s unwavering support towards regional integration, had strengthened economic ties on the continent.

“You have shown that kingship and other traditional structures are not just relics of the past but vital partners in ensuring social cohesion, promoting cultural pride and driving cultural development institutions- this inclusive approach has strengthened our society and reinforced our shared vision and identity as Africans,” Torgbiga Amenya Fiti emphasized.

President Museveni for his part, implored the cultural leaders to sensitize their people to work towards wealth creation. He said the government of Uganda had always advocated prosperity among the people.

“Our starting point is a question. Do we want prosperity in Africa? If the answer is yes, how will that be achieved? Can it be achieved by begging Europeans? If begging was the solution, Africa will be rich because they have been begging for over 70 years – begging has not worked that is why you see crisis everywhere in Africa, which means the issue of prosperity is yet to be addressed,” he said.

He called for concerted efforts from African governments and citizens for a change in the status quo.
