The Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee in Parliament, Adams Mutawakilu, has taken a swipe at the President Akufo-Addo led government for bringing back ‘Dumsor’ through the back door.
According to Mutawakilu who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo, the return of the incandescent and unannounced power fluctuations known in Ghanaian parlance as ‘Dumsor’ is a testament to the fact that the government is bereft of ideas and lacks the competence to manage the energy sector efficiently.
“Under the cover of planned maintenance we use to have ‘Dumsor’, but currently it has become so severe that they are not even able to announce which area there would be planned maintenance,” he teased.
Speaking to the press in an interview in Parliament in response to a question on the recent power outages being experienced in some parts of the country, Mr. Mutawakilu alleged that the unannounced power outages are as a result of the government’s inability to procure fuel to power the generation plants.
“As we speak, they are not even able to provide fuel for some of the thermal plants. First of all, you all know ESLA has been mismanaged; 2, they are not able to pay the IPPs; and 3, they are not able to procure fuel to ensure that they run efficiently and effectively,” he said, while calling on the President to take action to end the phenomenon.
“Therefore, we call on President Nana Akufo-Addo to instruct his Minister for Energy to inform ECG to come out with a timetable for the ‘Dumsor’.”
