UNOWAS commends Ghana for contributing meaningfully to W/A regional security frameworks

The Minister of Interior Mubarak Muntaka, has received Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), during a courtesy visit to his office in Accra on Monday April 14.

Mr. Simão commended Ghana for its consistent efforts in maintaining domestic peace and contributing meaningfully to regional security frameworks.

The Interior Minister expressed his sincere gratitude for the United Nations’ unwavering support over the years and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ensuring that its citizens continue to live in a peaceful and secure environment.

A key topic of the discussion was the Accra Initiative—a vital regional framework aimed at addressing security challenges such as terrorism and violent extremism.

Both parties acknowledged the importance of revitalizing the initiative to enhance its effectiveness in addressing emerging threats.

“We pledged to work closely to rejuvenate the Accra Initiative, with a shared commitment to strengthening coordination among member states and promoting sustainable peace across the region.

“The Ministry of the Interior and UNOWAS have agreed to maintain open lines of communication to ensure the successful implementation of our shared objectives, including the revitalization of the Accra Initiative,” the Minister wrote on his Facebook page.
