Akufo-Addo to finally deliver anticipated State of the Nation Address next Wednesday
Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution mandates the President to present the nation’s address to Parliament at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of the House.
All appears set for President Akufo-Addo to finally deliver the State of the Nation Address in Parliament next week Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
This year’s address which was scheduled for Thursday, March 3, 2022, was postponed indefinitely amid claims by the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, that the Speaker and the leadership of Parliament have not been able to communicate and give the President the green light for the presentation.
Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution mandates the President to present the nation’s address to Parliament at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of the House.
The President during the address is expected to underscore the achievements chalked so far, challenges faced, and outline developmental initiatives to address the economic hardships facing the ordinary Ghanaian.
Speaking in an interview with The NewsRoom, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, Habib Iddrisu expressed optimism that the address will be delivered next Wednesday without further postponements.
“I’m the Chairman of the Committee in Parliament, that is, the State of the Nation Address Committee of Parliament, and the President will deliver the message on the state of the nation on the 30th, that is next week Wednesday.”
He added that the committee on Tuesday interacted with all the stakeholders including the state protocol, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, the National Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service, National Security, ECG, the Information Service Department and all the key players to test their readiness for the constitutional obligation.
