Vice President To Cut Sod for the Construction Of Watermelon Factory In North East

he Vice-President His Excellency, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to cut the sod for the construction of a watermelon factory in the North East region on Monday, 16th December 2019.

The North East regional Secretary for the NPP, lawyer Sulley Sambian on his Facebook page on Friday, 13th December, 2019 revealed that the watermelon factory is part of the One-District-One-Factory policy of the NPP government.

He added that the Vice-President will also cut the sod for the construction of a district hospital for Walewale on the same day.

It will be recalled that in July this year, some large quantities of watermelon were reported to have been rotten away in the North East Region due to lack of storage facilities and access to a ready market.

Prices for the fruit then went down drastically as a result of  lack of storage facilities and access to a ready market.

Even at that price, some of the farmers were unable to attract buyers, leaving the fruits to rot on the farms.
