As part of its commitment to social responsibility, diversity, and inclusion, Vivo Energy, in collaboration with Shell, has organized this year’s ShePower Summit under the theme “Fueling Change: Redefining Possibilities for Women in STEM.”

The ShePower project aims to create an inclusive environment where women can thrive, contribute their unique perspectives, and shape their future. It also seeks to empower women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), particularly at the Junior High School (JHS) level in Ghana. The initiative has highlighted the immense potential of practical STEM education in equipping the next generation of Ghanaians with relevant skills for the future workforce.

Speaking at the summit, Reinette Wessels, Chief HR Officer of Vivo Energy Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to gender diversity in the oil and gas industry. “STEM is a key focus for us, as we aim to achieve 40% female representation in our workforce by 2026. Our goal is to accelerate women’s progress across Africa,” she stated.

While STEM remains a priority, Wessels noted that the company also values other key functions such as human resources and communications. She highlighted the need to increase female participation in technology, engineering, supply chain, distribution, and finance, where there is currently a shortage of women. Globally, women account for only 23% of the workforce in the oil and gas industry, a statistic Vivo Energy aims to improve.
