Volta NDC Women: Paul Adom Otchere must apologize to Zanetor Rawlings now

STATEMENT BY THE VOLTA WOMEN’S WING OF THE NDC DEMANDING FROM MR. PAUL ADOM OTCHERE AN UNQUALIFIED APOLOGY TO HON. DR. ZANETOR AGYEMAN Rawlings , MP FOR KLOTTEY-KORLEY CONSTITUENCY

The Volta Regional NDC Women’s Wing and the Women’s Working Committee have learnt with regret the conduct of the host of Metropolitan Television’s ‘Good Evening Ghana’, Mr. Paul Adom Otchere,
on Thursday, 16th April, 2020.

Mr. Paul Adom Otchere, on the said programme, launched a scathing attack on the person of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Klottey-Korley Constituency, in the Greater Accra Region.

What surprises us most is that even a first year Journalism student knows that he/she cannot mount such open insult on someone on national television without giving the person a chance to defend themselves. The Volta NDC Women are unhappy with the conduct of Mr. Adom Otchere, as it became apparent that the said show was ostensibly staged to satisfy his paymasters.

Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings spoke to the media on the alleged politicization of the state-sponsored relief items for the poor, which became the basis for the unwarranted attack from Mr Paul Adom Otchere.

The Women’s Wing in the region sees this attack by Mr. Adom Otchere on the illustrious daughter of the region as an attack on all hardworking women of the region. As far as the Women’s wing is concerned, the conduct of Mr. Adom Otchere is a deliberate one, calculated to tarnish the integrity and the person of the hardworking MP. The behavior of Mr. Adom Otchere runs contrary to the very basic standards of Journalism, and can best be described as the work of an unrepentant mercenary and not a Journalist.

The Women’s wing has also for a while now, watched with distaste the conduct of Mr. Adom Otchere, anytime he sits infront of the cameras. Suffice it to say that he has lost touch with his calling as a journalist and has become an accomplished mercenary and a propaganda tool in the hands of the NPP.

We are very much aware of his appointment to the Board of the National Communications Authority; and while we know that Mr. Adom Otchere would want to return the favour, we expected, in the least, that he would have some semblance of self respect and exhibit some modicum of discretion becoming of his new office.

This latest gaffe by Mr. Adom Otchere has become one too many in a tall laundry list of same. The blatant lies he told about the respected Legal Practitioner, Nii Addey Clegg, on the Bola Ray’s “StarrChat” show, to which he later admitted and for which he apologized on live radio, is very fresh on our minds. What’s more, he is also on record to have told a lie about Manasseh Azure Awuni regarding some $100,000 bribe the latter allegedly took from Zoomlion Gh. LTD. to kill a story.

From the foregoing, it is evident Mr. Paul Adom Otchere has credibility issues. Would be better he focuses on how to fix his tattered credibility,vg provided that it is doable. It’s unfortunate Mr. Paul Adom Otchere left us no other option but to call him out for who he has become; a disgrace to impartial and unbiased journalism. He has such an exaggerated opinion of himself and it’s unfortunate the sacred institution of journalism should have to suffer such disgrace on account of one misguided political mercenary.

The Women’s Wing and the Women Working Committee of the Volta Region NDC wish to appeal to the National Media Commission, the Ghana Journalists Association, and the Management of the Metropolitan Television Network, to call Mr. Adom Otchere to order.

Related to the partisan nature of the food and other items distribution, the Women’s Wing had received genuine complaints of neglect from the lockdown areas but mindful not to dignify the NPP party and their spokespersons with a response as their heartlessness and clueless-ness is what Dr Bishop Dag Herward Mills partly but aptly captures as “ignoramuses; who speak about things they dont know”.

Our call, however, goes in support of Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings to President Nana Akufo Addo to probe the matter of senseless partisanship taking centre stage in the distribution of food and other items in this crises.

Also, the good people of Ghana deserve to know why the people’s representatives – elected Assembly men/women in these lockdown areas were glaringly sidelined by Government in this critical exercise of food and other items distribution.

Signed
