The Volta River Authority (VRA) has indicated the possibility of a spillage of water from the Akosombo Dam, although an exact date has not yet been announced.

Discussions will focus on potential implications, mitigative measures, and effective dissemination of information to residents.

The VRA’s precautionary measures follow a previous incident in September 2023 when excess water released from the Akosombo Hydro Dam led to flooding and significant damage to about 39,000 homes in the lower Volta basin.
