A press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Eklu, noted that “through intelligence sharing with our counterparts in West Africa and beyond, the activities of a group believed to be perpetuating employment-related scam in Burkina Faso has been uncovered.”

“These suspected scammers in question usually post advertisements on social media about employment opportunities in various West African countries targetting online job applicants,” the Police detailed, ABC News can report.

The situation is dire and applicants of online job opportunities are at extreme risk, according to the Ghana Police Service as some of these scammers request for personal details and private information of potential victims.

Various forms of harassment and abuse are meted out to the victims upon arrival at the center for an interview or stated appointment if any, the Police disclosed.

The statement signed by ACP Eklu indicated that “after applicants or the job seekers report for training and conclude all the procedures, they are subjected to various forms of harassments and their monies are taken from them after which they are forced to provide other victims in exchange for their freedom,” ABC News can report.

The Police also advise that the public, as much as possible contact the hiring agency or organisation to verify the details required before applying.
