VR: 14 Voter Registration Centers not yet operational in Ho Central
Contrary to the Electoral Commission’s widely publicized phase three of the ongoing registration exercise scheduled for 12th -17th July, 2020, and which is expected to cover some 39 registration centres in the Ho Central Constituency over the next six days, ghananewsonline.com.gh checks have revealed that about 14 registration centers are not operational.
A statement endorsed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Ho Central Constituency Communication Officer, Sefadzi Agama, has expressed shock at the development and wondering why the Electoral Commission would continue to take the good people of Volta Region for granted.
“We have learned, with shock and dismay, from our men on the ground that, for lack of registration kits and the malfunction of equipment, fourteen (14) centres have not started registration as at 11 am today, Sunday 12th July 2020” part of the statement read.
According to the release, the above, coupled with many other irregularities, feed into the party’s long held position that, the EC was not adequately prepared for this year’s registration exercise.
The NDC, according to the statement believes firmly that the action of the Electoral Commission is one of the grand schemes put together by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP in cahoot with the Jean Mensah-led EC, to suppress votes and disenfranchise people from the NDC’s strongholds across the country.
“It is abundantly clear to us that, the government after realizing their failed attempt in intimidating people of the Volta Region with heavily armed soldiers, immigration officers and members of NPP party vigilante forces, disguising themselves to be National Security operatives, has now resorted to deliberate moves to prevent eligible Nationals from registering” the statement again read.
According to the Ho Central NDC, the Jean Mensah led Electoral Commission has turned into denying EC officials undertaking the registration exercise in the Volta Region, the needed logistics all aimed at achieving “their devilish desires of stealing the Dec. 7th, 2020 election for the incumbent president” it again exposed.
The party therefore is calling on well-meaning Ghanaians, CSOs ,Traditional rulers, the Clergy among others to rise up in condemning the unfortunate development in the Ho Central constituency and the Volta region at large.
“We are by this notice sending a word of caution to the EC and whoever is engaged in any nefarious activity against the rights and the will of the people, to thread cautiously, so not to incur the wrath of the citizens of Ghana” the statement warned.
Meanwhile the party has asked all constituents who may still be in the queue by now, waiting to be registered, to remain calm while leadership make frantic efforts to address the situation at hand.
