VRA ready to expand operations into West African Market in 2020

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Ing. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa has hinted at the Authority’s readiness to expand its operations into the West African sub-region next year.

He made this declaration after receiving an award from the Africa Centre for Integrity and Development (ACID-Africa) “in recognition of his outstanding achievements with Integrity as the CEO” at the VRA’s headquarters in Accra on Friday.
Ing Antwi-Darkwa in an interview with the media, stated that “in the year 2020, we are going to continue to be dominant in the supply of electricity in the sector. But we are not going to limit ourselves to only Ghana.”
Because in Ghana we’ve provided a solid foundation for economic growth. We’ve made power available. There’s a lot of power generation in Ghana. We want to look beyond Ghana and continue what we’ve been doing in the last 50 years.”
Continue to supply Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso, and next year we’ll put in more effort to connect a transmission line from Bolgatanga to Mali. Once that is done, then we will supply power to Mali. Once we get to Mali, it means we are in Senegal, because Mali and Senegal are connected. Once we’re in Senegal we’re in Guinea, once we’re in Guinea we’re in Liberia, through Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire, and then back to Ghana.”
We want to be as dominant as we can in the sub-region, and we have reason to believe that we’ll be dominant.”
He talked up Ghana’s capacity to be a dominant power force in the region, considering the abundance of natural power generation resources available to her to pursue this West African agenda.
Marketing and sponsorship manager at ACID-Africa, Francis Anane explained that by awarding Ing  Antwi-Darkwa and the VRA, they were hoping to encourage other heads of institutions to act with integrity and embrace incorruptibility as a code for the good and development of the nation.
