W/R: Thief who dresses like Catholic priest lynched

A 24-year-old suspected thief has been beaten to death at Fijai in the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region.

The deceased,who has been identified as Nana Kojo Dua and popularly known as Power, was found lying in a pool of blood in the early hours of Wednesday, April 6.

Assembly member for the area Ramatu Ibrahim told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Omanbapa morning show on Connect FM, that information about what led to the lynching of the young man is unknown but he is alleged to be a notorious thief in the area.

“I was informed this dawn that a suspected thief has been beaten to death. I came and saw the lifeless body of the young man lying in a pool of blood. The sad aspect of the issue is that after killing him, the mob dumped the body at the house of his mother. I have informed the police so we are waiting for them to convey the body,” she indicated.

Residents of the Fijai community who reported the incident to Connect FM indicated that the deceased sometimes dresses like a Roman Catholic priest to carry out his activities.

They recounted an instance where he dressed as a Catholic priest to steal the vehicle of another Catholic priest

The mother of the deceased, Auntie Yamoah, who sounded traumatized, indicated that she witnessed the beating of her son.

“I was at home when one of my children came to inform me that my eldest son has gone to steal and, as a result, they have started beating him. I went there and saw them beating him. I asked them to save my son but they did not mind me,” she added.

When asked whether she is aware her son is a notorious thief, she indicated that he was a driver but later decided to adopt a different lifestyle.

“I know he is a driver but he later stopped and resorted to other behaviour. I have been speaking to him to change his attitude but he did not listen to me,” she added.
