W/R: Three armed robbers burnt for robbing & killing gold dealer

“About 6:30 am, I started calling my brother and he was not answering so I asked someone to go and look for him at the mining site if he was there. After about ten minutes, a call came through that my brother had been shot by armed robbers so I got there immediately. I went and took him straight to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival,”

Three armed robbers have been burnt to death at Moseaso, a community in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.

The robbers, numbering eight, robbed and shot a gold dealer, Frank Arthur, 51, to death at the community and that angered the residents to react.

A brother to the gold dealer, Richard Arthur, indicated in an interview with Kaakyire Kofi Badu of Ahobrase FM in Asankragwa that he received a distress call indicating his brother had been shot by armed robbers.

“About 6:30 am, I started calling my brother and he was not answering so I asked someone to go and look for him at the mining site if he was there. After about ten minutes, a call came through that my brother had been shot by armed robbers so I got there immediately. I went and took him straight to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival,” he indicated.

According to him, he was still at the hospital when he had information that some youth in the area had arrested some of the armed robbers.

“I was still at the hospital making arrangement for my brother’s body when I received a call from the community that three of the armed robbers have been arrested. I later arrived in the community and realized they have burnt all the three to death,” he added.

He indicates that the burnt armed robbers are known members of the community who are also ex-convicts.

“They have been terrorizing residents in our community. Some of them are ex-convicts and they are known faces in our community. Those who are on the run are from adjourning communities and we trust the police to arrest them in no time,” he added.

Kaakyire Kofi Badu confirmed to Connect FM that leader of the armed robbers is currently on the run with four others.

He added that the three bodies have been deposited at the Asankragwa Catholic Hospital whilst the police mount a search for the rest.

The bodies of those burnt could be seen lying at the bucket of a pickup vehicle with residents gathered to catch a glimpse of them.
