We have no power to retain MPs – Volta NDC rebuts claims
“Volta NDC wants to state emphatically that the figures we provided in our earlier release are the most factual and accurate. They are figures provided us by the Lifetime Wells Vision Project Coordinator himself”
The Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region have strongly rebutted claims that they are plotting to retain Members of Parliament (MPs) from the region who are not up to the task of giving good representation in Parliament to their various constituents.
A release signed by the Regional Communications Officer, Sorkpa K. Agbleze, and copied to ghananewsonline.com.gh on Saturday said there is no such scheming and that no member of the Regional Executive has such “power or authority to determine who becomes an MP in any constituency in the Region”.
Also, concerning the disparities in figures in relation to the eye surgery carried out in the Region by a non- governmental organization – Lifetime Wells Vision, the release insisted their figures were accurate because that was what was officially communicated to them by the NGO that carried out the exercise.
“Volta NDC wants to state emphatically that the figures we provided in our earlier release are the most factual and accurate. They are figures provided us by the Lifetime Wells Vision Project Coordinator himself,” it stated.
We publish below the full rejoinder by Volta NDC
RE: HOW VOLTA NDC IS PLOTTING TO RETAIN MPS WHO ARE UNDERPERFORMING
The attention of the Leadership of the NDC in the Volta Region has been drawn to a publication that has gone viral alluding to the assertion that the Regional Executives of the Party are scheming to undemocratically maintain some MPs in the next parliamentary elections.
We want to state unequivocally that no Regional Executive has the intention or is clothed with the power or authority to determine who becomes an MP in any constituency in the Region. The NDC’s Constitution explicitly provides that the power to choose who becomes the PC on the ticket of the Party resides solely in the delegates in each Constituency, and NOT in any portfolio at the regional level. It will therefore smack either sheer ignorance of the Party’s internal electoral processes or a deliberate attempt to cause an unwarranted disaffection for the Regional Executives for anyone to publish such untruths.
The writer further stated that the figures that the communication outfit put out in relation to the eye surgery carried out in the Region is inaccurate because the website of Lifetime Wells Vision published something on the contrary.
Volta NDC wants to state emphatically that the figures we provided in our earlier release are the most factual and accurate. They are figures provided us by the Lifetime Wells Vision Project Coordinator himself.
We are reliably informed that the figures on the website of the Lifetime Wells Vision does not reflect the true operations of the NGO in the Volta and Oti Regions from 2020 through 2021 to its most current activities of 2022.
We therefore firmly implore those behind the publication in question to do well by urgently engaging the Project Coordinator of Lifetime Wells Vision in order to get their facts right.
Thank you.
