We Will Campaign To Have Ghanaians Boycott Your Rice Products If…Awuni To Imported Rice Dealers

Award-winning investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has hinted of leading a campaign to encourage Ghanaians to stop patronising imported rice should the bullying of the media by companies involved do not stop.

The journalist who took to Facebook to express disappointment in some companies who have threatened to withdraw their adverts from the Multimedia group for joining the buy made-in-Ghana rice campaign.

The journalist said if the bullying fails to stop, then the next phase of the campaign would be to name, shame and expose the brands involved so Ghanaians would stop patronising them especially this festive season.

”If this bullying persists, the next phase of the campaign should be to name, shame and boycott the brands whose imposters think the media must not discuss this critical issue because of their selfish interests. Encouraging Ghanaians to eat local rice is not a crime. The media stations are not stopping you from selling your imported rice. They are only telling Ghanaians not to allow the rice produced here go waste,” he wrote.

If the demand for local rice grows, those in the business can switch and take advantage of it. Joy FM or Citi FM will not go into rice business. The same importers can switch and still be in good business.

If they think the national interest should be shelved, we will boycott them this Christmas. Even if we run out of local rice, we shall eat banku, konkonte and fufu at Christmas. The only reason I used to think rice was better than konkonte because of the malnourished soup with which my poor family used to serve the konkonte with. Today, I will choose banku or konkonte over rice any day.

Meanwhile, Citi FM should not be left to feel the impact of the ad withdrawal. We should crowd-fund them and any station which suffers as a result pushing the national interest.
