We will continue to scout for opportunities for Ghanaians – Permanent Mission of Ghana to UN

The Head of Information for the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations, Frederick Kofi Ameyaw has reiterated the commitment of the Ghana Mission in New to avail every opportunity socially and economically for the Ghanaian both in the truth-state of New York and the Ghanaian in Ghana.

He made these remarks when the United Nations Office of Human Resources in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency and the Permanent Mission of Ghana organized a two-day career fair in Accra from 20-21 November 2019.

He expressed his profound appreciation and gratitude to the Board Chairman of YEA, Sammi  Awuku and the Chief Executive Officer, Lawyer Justin Koduah Frimpong and the wonderful and hardworking team of the Agency for hosting and organizing this outreach program.

“They are the reason some of you today might have the opportunity to work in the world’s largest organization”. He said.

Mr. Ameyaw at the opening of the Career Fair, revealed some of the feats of the Mission especially this year.

“We have played a critical role at the organization and continues to do so especially in the area of peacekeeping, peacebuilding and the maintenance of peace” He revealed.

He also mentioned that, President Akufo- Addo’s reappointment as Co-Chair of Eminent Group of Advocates for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the appointments of Her Excellency Mrs Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee as a Co-Facilitator for Financing for Development at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly and a Co-Chair of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the General Assembly at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.

The invitation of Otumfuo Osei Tutu as the Keynote Speaker at the 20th Anniversary of the UN General Assembly Resolution 53/243 on the Declaration and Programme of Action on Culture for Peace also symbolizes the recognition of Ghana in the comity of nations.

He mentioned some of the activities that the Mission has been involved to bring opportunities to Ghana;

The Ghana Mission, earlier this year, April 13, to be precise, organized a business meeting between the Ghana Chamber of Commerce in New York and the Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to explore business potential and capacities both in Ghana and in New York. He

New York City’s Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Ghana Mission in New York from October 21 to October 24, 2019 organized a matchmaking event in the IT sector.

The four-day event provided access to relevant information on business opportunities in New York and also featured technical sessions on building a strategic partnership that could support growth.

The delegation of IT Firms from Ghana were engaged by the New York City Department of Small Business Services, a department of NYC that helps to unlock economic potential and create economic security for all New Yorkers by connecting New Yorkers to good jobs, creating stronger business, and building thriving neighborhoods across the five boroughs and some service providers of the department for the purpose of matchmaking and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), an agency responsible for the city’s investment in industries that drives the economy, in sectors like technology, life sciences, manufacturing and fashion.

The team also met with NUMA, a Paris based accelerator network and one of the first accelerators in the world, next to Techstars and Y-Combination. ERA is the first accelerator in NYC, and one of the largest accelerator funds on the eastern seaboard. Accathon Capital program connects international entrepreneurs into the Chinese market to connect for more opportunities.

Plans are far advanced on a joint effort between the United Nations Department of Economic and day Social Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and the Ghana Permanent Mission to the UN to bring on board businesses with bankable projects that are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.This groundbreaking opportunity will happen in April 2020.

The Mission is happy to have worked together with the Office of Human Resources at the UN Secretariat and Youth Employment to bring to you, the good people of Ghana a unique awareness and sensitization outreach targeted at enhancing the chances of the Ghanaian to be part of the UN workforce. He concluded.
