The management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced plans to begin the spillage of excess water from the Weija Dam.

According to the GWCL, the torrential rains being recorded lately have led to a gradual rise in water levels.

In a letter dated March 7, 2024, GWCL emphasized the need to spill the water to prevent potential risks to lives and properties, including the potential collapse of the dam.

Although GWCL did not specify the exact commencement date of the spillage, it indicated that the process would start at a low rate to minimize downstream impacts.

The rate of spillage will be determined by the incoming flow of water into the dam, and it will continue as long as the water level continues to rise.

GWCL expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the spillage and assured the public of their commitment to managing the situation effectively.
