The chief and residents of Akyem Dome, in the Eastern Region’s Fanteakwa South District, have threatened to boycott the 2024 general elections in protest of what they call a death trap bridge.

The chief and residents of the community claimed they have repeatedly complained about the poor condition of the unfinished bridge, but authorities have refused to help.

They claimed that the bridge’s death trap nature endangers their schoolchildren and their age group, as well as their farming activities, which provide them with a living.

Speaking at a press conference, Barima Amoako Affum II, the chief of Akyem Dome, warned all political parties not to visit his town on election day unless they repaired their bridge.

Barima Amoako Affum added that no political party should campaign in the town until the bridge is fixed and put to use.

Nana stated that the bridge was awarded a contract two years ago, with some drainage systems completed, but the work has been abandoned.

Barima Amoako Affum II urged the government and the Fanteakwa South DCE, Hon. Ernest Fosu, to bring the contractor back to the site and finish the death trap bridge.
