We’ll Employ New Teachers If You Don’t Call Off Strike – GES Warns Striking Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is threatening to recruit new teachers is they do not call off strike action.

Striking teachers  have rebutted by in insisting the the strike will be in force until all arrears are paid

In an interview on Acrra based Adom FM monitored by vimnewsgh, the Chairman of the GES Council, Michael Nsowah, said if teachers continue with the strike action, government will be forced to employ new teachers.

He stated that teachers have the right to protest for their rights but at the end, it’s the students who get affected academically.

“We are still monitoring the situation and if they still continue with their strike action, we will then be forced to recruit new teachers,” Mr. Nsowah said.

He added that there were people with very good certificates who are looking for teaching jobs and government wouldn’t hesitate to employ them to teach if the strike action is not called off despite effort made.

Mr Nsowah insists that as of September 2019, the GES had effected payments of full salary arrears to about 87,556 teachers, representing 95 per cent of the affected teachers.
