President John Mahama has announced plans by his government to introduce short military training for National Service Scheme (NSS) personnel.

Speaking during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term on Thursday, February 27, he explained that the initiative aims to instill a sense of fitness and discipline among young people serving the country.

“We will introduce short military training as part of our National Service Scheme. This will instill a sense of fitness and discipline in our youth,” he stated.

President Mahama also stated that he had directed security agencies to declare the suspects involved in the National Service Authority (NSA) ghost names scandal who as absconders wanted.

According to the him, those implicated in the scandal must be held accountable, as state resources cannot be looted with impunity.

“Such brazen theft of public funds must be stopped and punished,” he emphasised, vowing that his government would ensure that justice is served.
