Protest
Democracy Hub in July announced a three-day demonstration beginning on September 21, 2024- the birthday of Ghana’s First President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah- against the “rots” in government and economic hardship.

The group in a statement announced the demonstration will be under the banner, “A New Constitution for a New Generation”.

“The protest will begin at 6:00 AM on 21st September and conclude at 11:59 PM on 23rd September 2024; and is scheduled to take place at the Revolutionary Square across Liberation Road, opposite the Jubilee House.”

Among the pressing issues this will be kicking against are socio-economic injustice, lack of jobs, rising poverty, state capture, nepotism, corruption and the need for judicial independence

They will also be demanding the drafting of a new constitution which embraces Inclusive Governance, Transparency and Accountability, Economic Reforms, Equity in the Distribution of Public Goods, Minimizing State Capture, Safeguarding against Politicization of Public Service and Judicial Independence.

The organisers of the protest intend to spark and build a meaningful dialogue on the need for constitutional reforms as well as inspire action for a more just and equitable society where the voices of the youth are heard and valued, through legislative actions which will be sustained by ongoing civic mobilization.

It will be recalled that a similar protest was held last year, which was marred by arrests and abuse by the police from the beginning.
