We’ve Certified 14 Rice Companies; More In The Pipeline-GSA

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has disclosed that it has certified 14 rice companies with more in the pipeline to be certified.

GSA says the certified companies have met all the requirements and the GSA is still taking steps to standardised the remaining ones.

Dr. Kofi Amponsah-Bediako, Director of Corporate Communications at the GSA made the disclosure in an interview.

He said the state body has resolved to help promote locally made rice.

He told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the campaign to promote locally made rice will help transform the economy.

He said Ghanaians must be encouraged to buy made-in-Ghana rice.

One other initiative they will embark on is to collaborate with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to fast track the standardization of local rice products.

According to Dr. Amponsah-Bediako, the GSA and FDA have agreed to work out modalities to facilitate the standardization and registration of local rice.

He said the decision of the two agencies follows a meeting between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Rice Millers, Food and Beverages Association of Ghana, and some financial and trading institutions.

He reiterated that the GSA will continue to promote the made-in-Ghana rice and encourage Ghanaians to patronise it because the locally made rice is far better than the imported ones.
