Why is AKUFO-ADDO withdrawing Military Personnel from Galamsey Sites? – Owula Mangortey asks

I am a Citizen.

I rise to ask my respected Retired and Tired President Billy Akufo-Addo why he has authorized the withdrawal of soldiers from galamsey sites within the next three months.

A copy of minutes from the Police Council, National Security Secretariat and the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (lCIM) which was making the rounds in the Intelligence community included directives to the Military High Command to withdraw all Military Personnel from all mining sites within the next three months

With copies to the Chief of Defence Staff and the GAF General Headquarters of Joint Operations (GHQ JOPS), part of the minutes read as follows:

The Police Council, after careful review of the activities of OPERATION VANGUARD has taken the decison “to withdraw all Military Personnel from all mining sites, including OPERATION VANGUARD in the next three (3) months. The Council’s view is that the Military should not be deployed perpetually to undertake Civil Police duties especially in illegal mining.”

The Police Council directive will see the withdrawal of all Military Personnel from:

(a). Galamstop Activities

(b). Operation Vanguard

(c). All Minning Sites

Ahooooo. Ahoyayayaya!!!

The most interesting part of the minutes contains what appears to be a galamsey bonanza offered to the Minister of Interior.

The Police Council “urged the Minister of Interior to instruct the IGP to fill in the vacancies which will be left by the withdrawal of the Military with Police Personnel within Operation Vanguard.”

Finally, the Police Council stated that they were satisfied with the conduct, progress and success chalked by Operation Vanguard over the two and half years of it’s work and therefore congratulate the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for a good job done.
