Woman killed in shootout at a Ghanaian hotel
A woman has died in a shooting incident at a hotel in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, Dailymailgh has learned.
The incident occurred at Cedar Crescent Hotel at Danyame —about 6km from the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
Witnesses say the deceased, only identified as Maame Yaa, was with her boyfriend, Edwin Awuku at dawn when the two gun-wielding men stormed their hotel room and attacked them.
The deceased was shot at close range, killing her instantly, police sources told Dailymailgh.
Edwin, who sustained gunshot wounds was quickly referred to the emergency unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, after lodging a formal complaint at the nearest police station.
The remains of the deceased, have also been deposited at the same hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Command have since visited the crime scene and have commenced investigations into the case.
Management of the hotel were, however, not available for comments when Dailymailgh contacted.
Witnesses have described the incident as a targeted attack as the family of the deceased were yet to be informed about the incident.
