Women Must Arise In Politics- Akua Donkor
According to her, women possess all the inherent traits men hold in engaging in political leadership and must not allow anything to draw that back.
The late founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor in her last interview encouraged women to take an active part in the country’s politics and lead their societies, defying all odds and restraints.
According to her, women possess all the inherent traits men hold in engaging in political leadership and must not allow anything to draw that back.
“No woman should restrain herself from politics because of no academic background. Rise if you are a woman because what we can do is what the men are doing,” she said on My Turn, on GTV as she munched into her policies for the presidency.
As a woman in politics, she said all that is required is to submit to their husbands.
“Take care of your husbands, respect them and submit yourselves to them so everything you do goes well.”
Agriculture
As part of her policies, she was determined to ban the use of fertiliser by farmers on crops as she weighed in on the irreparable damages fertilisers are having on crops, lands and other important crop and animal species.
“I am a farmer by profession. The only ban I institute is the use of fertilisers. This is because it is wreaking havoc on other species and crops. Mushroom, snail, cocoyam and many others. If we continue like this, we won’t be able to cultivate any crop in years to come.”
She promised to enhance the work of farmers with the allotment of funds and cutlasses.
She promised to increase a bag of cocoa from the current price to Ghc5,000 to eradicate smuggling.
She added, “Akufo-Addo has done well but I will do more.”
Electricity
Witnessing the significance of electricity to households and businesses, the 72-year-old said citizens would enjoy the necessity at no cost.
This she intended to fund with the revenue from the processing of crude oil in the country.
Unemployment
Akua Donkor has plans for the teeming unemployed youth too. For all such who have an interest in farming, she promised to make available the forest reserves for them and grant them a starting capital.
“The forest will be open. I will fund young men and women to go into farming. The forest is yours. You are the reason the reserves were set aside. The money I will give you to start will not be taken back and so will the farm be yours.”
Persons who required jobs outside farming were promised the same.
“Those who want jobs outside farming will be given the chance to join any company or service he or she wishes. No one will obstruct you. There won’t be any discrimination. The literate and the illiterate will have their share.”
Journalist
For journalists whose work she deemed relevant, she pledged to give free cars with fuel coupons.
“They are more important than MPs. When the legislators speak their terms in English, the journalist interprete. Even when there is a crime they, are the first to make it known to the police for action so they are very important.”
She continued, “I will give you money. You are important. I will make you happy. The bad ones won’t enjoy this. Only the good and honest ones will get the car.”
Maternity Leave
In her prerecorded interview, Akua Donkor announced plans to institute a one-year maternity leave for women in both private and public sectors.
Her intention was to enable the babies to get access to the needed breastfeeding as well as the requisite healthcare for the mothers.
“Women in the public and private sector will enjoy a one-year leave before they go back to work. This will enable her to give her baby the needed breastfeeding and enable her wounds to heal.”
She also announced a paternity leave of three months for fathers.
“The man will enjoy three months paternity leave to help his wife.”
Fiscal
Another thing she spoke of was her quest to sanction the printing of more money cedi notes and distributing them equitably among citizens.
“It’s ours and will be distributed for even the thief to stop stealing,” she said, adding that the country’s natural resources will be efficiently and prudently utilized.
“Gadhafi didn’t have half of the natural resources we have but he did more than this for his people. Everyone will benefit from the crude God has endowed us with. Through the counsel of God, Kwame Nkrumah built a refinery and so we will be able to do it. I will not borrow from international communities and countries. Our resources are enough for us.”
Official Language
Another passion she laid out was plans to make Asante Twi the official language of the country instead of English.
Vote
She therefore urged Ghanaians to vote for her on December 7.
“When you go, look for my face with the scarf and avoid spoiling the ballot.”
She also advised against electoral violence saying, “After voting go back to your house so you don’t get offended…If someone sends you to steal ballot boxes, refuse and tell him to send his child rather. Don’t do anything that will jeopardize your safety.”
