Women’s football is the future, invest in it – FIFA President to member associations

Infantino’s message comes months after the successful organisation of the 2023 Women’s World Cup which was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, has advised member associations to take a keen interest in pumping money into women’s football.

According to him, women’s football could be the next big thing in the sport considering the development it has seen in the last few years.

During the AFC Extraordinary Congress, President Infantino made a clear appeal to Women’s football development.

He said: “We’ve been discussing as well about the (FIFA) Women’s World Cup, the next one in 2027. My appeal, again, to all of you is: invest in the women’s game. It is definitely the future. We’ve seen it, we continue to see it.

“I want every country in the world to have a women’s league, to have a women’s national team. It is really, really fundamental because women represent 50% of the world population, also in Asia and all corners of the world and we need to foster women’s football development.”

Infantino’s message comes months after the successful organisation of the 2023 Women’s World Cup which was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

The tournament which was won by Spain saw record attendances, more than 1.5 million tickets sold, competitive matches and a festive atmosphere in the two host nations.
