The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has threatened to place the retired commissioner of police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye under a citizen’s arrest.

He made this assertion in an interview with Wontumi Radio on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

According to Chairman Wontumi, COP Kofi Boakye, is engaged in training members of the opposition NDC to cause disturbances in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming December elections.

He made these remarks when chaos erupted in the Ashanti Region, as demonstrators of the “Enough is Enough” demonstration clashed with the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, amid violent uproar.

Reports indicate that the clashes involved protestors and alleged NPP vigilantes disguised in police and military attire.

Despite the provocation, protestors stood united in demanding accountability from the Electoral Commission amidst concerns of voter register discrepancies jeopardizing the upcoming December elections.

The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman after the clash with the demonstrators, indicated that, COP Kofi Boakye, is engaged in training NDC foot soldiers to cause mayhem in the upcoming December elections.

“Kofi Boakye, if there are any disturbances here, we will hold you responsible. This place belongs to us. You were lobbying for the IGP position under the NPP government, and today you are the one training NDC mercenaries to perpetuate violence. I am going to deal with you. I am stronger than you. I will deal with you, Kofi Boakye,” Chairman Wontumi said in Twi.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP further stated that “if you meet Kofi Boakye anywhere, arrest him and bring him to me under citizen’s arrest. I will hand him over to the police… we have a lot of things we can do, but we won’t do them. If he goes little, we will go bigger,” Chairman Wontumi stated.

Despite the huge numbers recorded by the NDC during the demonstration, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, described the demonstration as a failed one, which did not attract the interest of Ghanaians.
