The Ghana Water Limited (GWL), in collaboration with the Water Resources Commission, has urged Ghanaians to protect and conserve water as the country joins the rest of the world to commemorate this year’s World Water Day.

World Water Day, celebrated on March 22 every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater. A key objective of the celebration is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure access to safe water for all. The event also seeks to raise awareness about the 2.2 billion people living without access to clean water.

Deputy Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, appealed to all Ghanaians to join the government and stakeholders in safeguarding Ghana’s water resources to enhance water distribution across the country. She emphasized that the conservation of water resources is a collective responsibility, as water is a shared resource essential for all.

Hon. Tetteh-Agbotui further stated that this year’s theme should serve as a wake-up call and an inspiration for all to intensify their commitment to reversing the deterioration of the country’s water bodies.

Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Mr. Adam Mutawaklu, called for increased investment in innovative solutions, equitable distribution systems, and sustainable infrastructure to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of their location or economic status, has access to clean and safe water.
