According to Akufo-Addo, it was due to mismanagement and poor governance by the then administration, led by John Dramani Mahama, that made the country go hungry whilst sitting on abundant wealth.

He said Ghana did not need to borrow to develop the country because money was available in the country, having a running mate who had worked at the Bank of Ghana before and knew how wealthy the nation is.

But speaking at Kpandai in the Northern region Tuesday, October 29, 2024 as part of his campaign tour, John Mahama asked President Akufo-Addo to come and explain to Ghanaians, the state of the money he claimed Ghana was sitting on.

He told the residents not to allow themselves to be deceived by the NPP anymore as they did in the previous elections.

“The deceit will not work anymore. In 2016 they deceived us with sweet words. They said the NDC and Mahama were incompetent so we should vote for them.

“They said they’ve worked at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) before and they know the money is there and there was no need to borrow to develop our country. Ghana is not a poor country, we are sitting on wealth and yet going hungry. They made all these statements.

“Yesterday I asked Bawumia five questions. But I’m asking Akufo-Addo just one question; where is the money we are sitting on? The money he said we were sitting on and yet going hungry, where is it? One question, he should come are respond to it for all Ghanaians to hear,” he challenged.
