Legendary Ghanaian music maestro Kojo Antwi has hailed Grammy-award winner Stevland Hardaway Morris, known professionally as Stevie Wonder, as the greatest musician in the world.

The two had an encounter during a birthday party organized to mark the 74th birthday of Stevie in Ghana on May 13, 2024.

“Yesterday was a BIG day for Stevie Wonder. The great musician who has written some of the greatest lyrics and songs for the world. Words can’t describe how talented and blessed God made you. “I have mentioned you in most of my interviews. You are the greatest. I can proudly say you’re a true African now, a Ghanaian. My senior brother. God bless you.”

Stevie is in Ghana with his family and has been conferred with Ghanaian citizenship by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“By conferring Ghanaian citizenship to him, we not only recognise his immense talent and achievements but also acknowledge his deep connection to the African continent,” President Akufo-Addo said in a speech at the ceremony earlier this week.

On his part, Stevie disclosed it had been his childhood dream to become a Ghanaian.

“First and foremost, I give all praise to God. Since I was a young boy, I’ve always believed in my heart that nothing is impossible. Guided by the spirit of the Most High, I’ve harboured the desire to come to Ghana for many years… Since around 1972,” he said in a video of the ceremony.

“For over 50 years, I’ve discussed the idea of being a citizen of this country. Now, as a Ghanaian citizen, I am committed to fulfilling the dream we’ve cherished for so long—uniting people of African descent and the diaspora. The world can only achieve unity when we, as a global community, come together,” he added.
