You have no moral right to talk about breaking the 8 – Dr Ato Forson to Akufo-Addo government

“I’m surprised the government is still talking about breaking the 8. If we were in any serious country, Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia would have resigned because they had mismanaged the economy. It’s scary the way they are managing the economy. 60% of state-owned agencies have collapsed under NPP.”

A former Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, says the NPP has no moral right to talk about the next election judging from its abysmal performance in the last six years.

Dr Ato Forson, who says “the country is suffering from economic mess,” expressed worry over the level of mismanagement superintended by President Akufo Addo. He alleged that the Akufo Addo presidency supervised the collapse of about 60% of state-owned agencies.

The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Finance Committee also described as “bogus” claims by the NPP that the energy sector levy has contributed to the current mess. According to him, under-recoveries in 2018 and the payment of electricity supply subsidies are the reason insisting anyone who will blame the NDC for the inefficiencies of the NPP government is shortsighted.

“All they (NPP) is doing is shifting the blame, and that is wrong. Do you remember the reduction in energy prices in 2018 by the former energy minister Boakye Agyarko? Government should have paid for the subsidies but it did not. So it has accumulated over the years. Also, the Electricity Company of Ghana was expected to rake in about 14 billion cedis this year but they only collected 70 percent. So the government is compelled to pay the about 4.2 billion is known as inefficiencies. How should you then blame NDC for your mess after six years? This is a bogus government. Let nobody make a mistake by blaming the economic mess on the energy sector cost,” he told the host of Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM’s Ghana Te Sen, Kwesi Parker-Wilson.

The minority spokesperson further added that the NPP government is a gargantuan failure in managing the economy.

He observed that government could only reverse the current economic crisis if it admitted its efficiencies and seeks for help in addressing the mess.
