Waste management giants, Zoomlion, a subsidiary of Jospong Group of Companies has begun the disinfection of military installations, basic, secondary and tertiary institutions in the Volta and Oti regions in a bid to be in combat readiness to fight the covid 19 pandemic.
The disinfection exercise of 55 military installations and two thousand, six hundred and fifty four education institutions commenced on 10th June 2020 and will end on 30 June 2020.
Some of the military installations include Volta barracks at Ho, Kpeve training camp, Naval training command located at sogakofe, including operation save life camp at Hohoe and operation Ahondzo camp at Nkonya among others.
Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta regional minister told journalists at a news conference in Ho asked municipal and district education Directors monitor the disinfection exercise of education facilities to ensure that the exercise is a success.
Ms. ENYONAM Afi Amafuga, the Volta region education director in an interview said in a bid to ensure that students who are expected to return to school this month to continue their academic program are safe from covid 19 virus, they will be provided with 3 re-washable and re-usable nose masks.
Additionally, all schools would be provided with veronica buckets to ensure regular washing of hands.
Chairs, according to her would be arraigned to comply with social distancing protocols.
With regards to academic work, Ms. AFI Amafuga explained that school would start at 9am to ensure that students have their breakfast at home before coming to school.
Students, the Volta region education director stated would spend four hours in school while there would be 15 minutes break when it comes to teaching but stressed that students would not be allowed to play.
The above mentioned interventions according to her will be replicated at all districts education institutions. Parents, Ms ENYONAM Amafuga noted would be sensitized on the covid 19 related education intervention program.
Lft Colonel Bernard Baba Pantoah, the commanding officer in charge of 66 artillery regiment in the Volta region on his part said his had been observing all the covid 19 protocols, saying the disinfection of the unit would make the fight against corona virus more effective.
The military high command in Accra according to him has send medical officers to do mass testing of over 400 officers of the unit including their family members on the corona virus.
