13th All African Games: Ghana government invests $243 million in facilities and preparations

The government has made huge investments, especially in infrastructure after completing the Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium

The 13th All-African Games will be held in Accra and Cape Coast between 8th March to 23rd March 2024.

It has been revealed that the government has already invested a whopping $243 million in the upcoming 13th All-African Games.

The government has made huge investments, especially in infrastructure after completing the Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The newly constructed 50,000-capacity Borteyman Olympic Standard Stadium boast a 400-metre 6-lane athletics warm-up track. It has a football field also.

There is a washroom for male and female athletes with a stand that can take 500 spectators.

A modern thousand-seater swimming pool with 8-lane competition swimming and 8-lane warm-up swimming pool is included in the Borteyman Sports Complex.

A temporary Dome that has a 500-seater capacity for handball, karate, judo, and taekwondo among others can be found at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

A hall that has 1000 seats for multipurpose sports- badminton, boxing, volleyball and weightlifting is available.

There are five tennis court complexes which include a 1000-seater centre court. It has a VVIP viewing with the centre covered and a playing ground for kids.

The Borteyman’s Sports Complex is the main centre for the All-African Games.

Other venues include The University of Ghana’s Sports Stadium which will be the main centre for Athletics.

Accra Sports Stadium will host football, The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium is available for field Hockey.

Cape Coast Sports Stadium is available for football, the Bukom Boxing Arena is for boxing while the Achimota Oval will host Cricket and Squash.

These are the venues where the government has made millions of dollars available for construction and restructuring.

Athletes from more than 50 African countries are expected to compete in the imminent 13th All-African Games.
