2023 African Games: Ghana likely to secure 3 medals in 200m finals
In today’s final, Janet will look to set the tone and secure a medal when she takes to the track at 3:35pm GMT followed by Joseph Paul Amoah who is assigned to lane 6 and Ibrahim Fuseini assigned to lane 2 at 3:50pm GMT.
Ghana’s 200-metre sprinters, Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Janet Mensah, look to secure more medals for the country in the ongoing 13th African Games as they prepare to compete in the 200-metre finals at the University of Ghana Stadium later today.
The trio booked a place in the finals by picking slots in their respective semi-final races.
Janet finished second in her semi-final race behind Gina Miriam Bass who clocked 23.42 seconds.
Despite not getting an impressive start to her race, Janet surged through the final 100m to clock an impressive 23.83 seconds to secure qualification.
On the other hand, Joseph Paul Amoah and Ibrahim Fuseini dominated their semi-final heat when secured the first and second spot to make it into the finals.
Joe Paul Amoah who is considered the 200m specialist got an impressive start as he gave the rest of the sprinters a wide gap allowing him to jog to the finish line in a time of 20.93 seconds.
Ibrahim also displayed remarkable determination as he got off to a good start but could not match his teammate’s speed and managed to grab the second spot in 21.03 seconds
