2023 NSMQ: PRESEC Legon takes home GHS 1m cash prize; wins contest for record 8th time

As the winners of the competition, the Presecans won a whopping GHS 75,000 as prize money, GHS 10,000 from AT as the highest point scorers of the day, and GHS 75,000 Insurance cover as well as other scholarships by other educational institutions.  

The much-anticipated final of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz contest came off at the National Theater in Accra on Monday, October 30, 2023.

The schools battling each other were two-time champions Opoku Ware School (OWASS), seven-time champions Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Legon (PRESEC), and two-time champions, Achimota School (MOTOWN).

This was MOTOWN’s first finale in fourteen years, OWASS returned after three years and PRESEC graced the finale for the fifth time in a row.

After five rounds of questions, PRESEC emerged victorious to take home their eighth trophy as well as GHS 1m worth of cash prizes after securing the win.

As the winners of the competition, the Presecans won a whopping GHS 75,000 as prize money, GHS 10,000 from AT as the highest point scorers of the day, and GHS 75,000 Insurance cover as well as other scholarships by other educational institutions.

The team will take home GHS 20,000 with teachers also taking GHS 20,000 with the remaining GHS 35,000 going to the school.

As runners-up, Achimota School was also awarded GHS 50,000, GHS 20,000 to the school, and GHS 15,000 each to the teachers and students respectively.

Opoku Ware School placed third with GHS 35,000 as cash prize with GHS 10,000 each going to the team and teachers and GHS 15,000 going to the school.

The 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz is produced by Primetime Limited and sponsored by the Ghana Education Service in partnership with GOIL Plc.
